After snagging the Slave 1 with Boba Fett, I knew I was going to be in trouble. I had always been able to resist the siren song of the Galactic Heroes line, with the exception of Darth Vader and the Emperor but I knew once I bit the bullet and bought a real set at retail price, it was going to be bad. While I won’t let it get as bad as my Super Hero Squad addiction and endless desire to be a completist, I know this is a can of worms I can never close back up.

Sometimes I make custom figures because I find a few pieces that make for an excellent kitbash, other times I make them because I think Hasbro would never release the figure even when it would be a simple repaint. After ending up with an extra Hobgoblin figure, I figured I needed to do something with the figure.
One option was going to be Cyber Hobgoblin, but that was a twisted abomination. So instead I took the easy repaint route and made my own Demogoblin! Read more…

Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League is often compared to Hasbro’s Super Hero Squad, and with good reason. Both are highly-stylized figures of classic superheroes that are sold in either two-packs, vehicle sets or in collector packs. Toys R Us got their own exclusive 6-pack of Action League figures that features five repacks and one exclusive figure!

A few years ago, I made the switch in scale with my toys from 6-inch to the 2.5 Heroes scale. But upon a recent trip home, I discovered that some of my favorite toys as a kid were in the same scale. Between the Army Ants and Battle Beasts, I always had been a fan of the 2-inch scale figures. So while sorting through some toys, I stumbled upon my old collection of Z-Bots. Released in the early 90s by Galoob, Z-Bots were miniature robots that fought each other. I remember getting hooked on them in ‘93 when Burger King gave five of them away in their Kid’s Meals.

For the last few weeks, I had been having serious craving for some lemon squares, though I suppose you could call them lemon bars if you don’t cut them into squares. This recipes isn’t anything too complicated and will need two large lemons for both zest and juice. Be sure to have a zester and a juicer before tackling this recipe. These squares are best served warm. And they’ve got some serious lemoniness to them!

While I’ve said there are universal truths when it comes to toys, there is one I haven’t touched upon yet: the sheer awesomeness of the Batmobile. It’s one of those toys every boy should have while growing up, and thankfully this toy mostly lives up to the legacy that I remember going back to the Batmobile that was released with the Tim Burton film. But while this one is in the style of the Brave and the Bold, it is an excellent representation of what the Batmobile should be.
Time is running out and Batman must use every device in the arsenal of the Batmobile to stop the insane machinations of the Clock King!

Adventure Heroes were Hasbro’s attempt to make Indiana Jones themed figures but make the match the style of their other successful lines, like Galactic Heroes and Super Hero Squad. Like all of the toys released during the Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull resurgence, they weren’t well received. In the case of Adventure Heroes, it wasn’t that the toys were bad, it was more of that the toys weren’t terribly exciting. At the end of the day, the figures were all normal humans and that was never going to be terribly exciting.
The line ended back in October of 2008 but recent something very interesting has come up concerning the figures. One figure that always seemed a little odd was the Cairo Swordsman.

The last set in Wave 3 of G.I. Joe Combat Heroes is the one I was least excited about. Troop Builders are always exciting, while I can never say no to a Cobra Commander. But this set is two characters I don’t care about: Lady Jaye and Major Bludd. Growing up, I never watched a lot of G.I. Joe so I didn’t develop a crush on Lady Jaye (that’s what April O’Neil was for) and before getting this set, I didn’t even know who Major Bludd was.

The big difference between Marvel and DC is simple: Marvel doesn’t have a character who can build any and every vehicle but that hasn’t stopped toy companies from treating Spider-Man like he’s Batman. Need to sell a toy car? Spider-Man’s fine (even though he didn’t have a license for years). Need to sell a toy boat? Sure, Spider-Man can do that too. I guess that kind of makes sense, but Spider-Man doesn’t seem like the kind of hero to be driving a duck boat armed with guns.

Hasbro seems to have learned from their mistakes based off the packaging snafu that happened with the first two waves. Instead of being an oddly shaped box, they are now the standard card back package. The vehicle packs now only contain one figure but there is a good side of this: the price has dropped $5 and the sets are now only $10 each.
