DC Universe Action League Review: Arkillo & Yellow Lantern Sinestro

without comments

No Action League wave would be complete without including some version of the Skittle Corps from Green Lantern. I mean, Action League has given us more members of the Green Lantern Corps than most teams so it’s about time the Sinestro Corps get their due.

Sinestro, with the help of his drill sergeant, Arkillo, builds his Sinestro Corps army to conquer the Green Lantern Corps.

Someone at Mattel must really love Sinestro. We’ve gotten his White Lantern version, the Green Lantern version and finally we got the Yellow Lantern version! Originally Hal Jordan’s mentor, Sinestro’s back story now makes barely any sense thanks to the DC reboot. He’s an alien, he might be Space Hitler and he likes the color yellow.

Sinestro has never been a big guy, so his proportions are slightly meeker than the average Action League figure. His arms are thinner along with the waist, but the chest is still larger than I would expect. Wearing his Yellow Lantern uniform, Sinestro looks really good. The contrasting black and yellow manage to end up not looking like a bumblebee. Even the golden bracers and silver belt manage not to clash which is impressive. To draw the space-Nazi thing further, Sinestro is wearing a yellow armband.

With this being the third Sinestro head sculpted for the line, I think this one is the best. The features are pointy and don’t look human. The widow’s peak hair and pencil mustache look good and the single wrinkle in his forehead gives him a feeling as age. The eyes though are amazing with yellow pupils set in black. The rest of the paint is good too, but this is Sinestro’s third different skin tone.

Sinestro is stamped with the Yellow Lantern emblem on his chest and ring, but not his armband. Articulation is the norm with him having cut joints at the shoulders, waist and neck.

Paired up with Sinestro is his first recruit and the Kilowog of the Sinestro Corps – Arkillo! Only, he would be the Kilowog-type if he didn’t eat people who failed him. A massive alien that looks like a walrus-gorilla-beast, Arkillo stands a head or two taller than most figures, while being twice as wide and twice as thick. He is huge. One of Arkillo’s fingers is as thick as Sinestro’s arm.

Wearing the exact same uniform as Sinestro, Arkillo looks great. The glossy black paints and flat yellow help sell the costume and again, the silver belt and gold bracers manage not to clash horribly. And Arkillo has the Yellow Lantern emblem on his armband along with his ring and chest – all of them are perfectly executed.

Arkillo’s face is terrifying with his fang filled mouth and dark eyes. The only issue with it is the tongue – Arkillo had his ripped out by Mongul and he wears it around his neck making sure he’s seen but not heard. Arkillo has the standard articulation as well with cut joints at the shoulders, neck and waist. His arms are so long that he can drag them on the floor like a gorilla.

While I know a lot of people are suffering from Green Lantern fatigue, especially given all the different colored Corps, this is a great pack. Finally getting Yellow Lantern Sinestro is amazing and Arkillo is a fantastic figure. He’s a giant space monster, how isn’t that a great toy?
