LEGO Review Collectible Minifigures Series 6: Mechanic #8827

Mechanics aren’t anything new in the LEGO City landscape, but a mechanic who is covered in grease and oil? That’s certainly unique. But I think it’s the pompadour hairpiece that puts him over the top.

“Sure, I can fix that…but wouldn’t it be even cooler with a rocket engine?” Nobody is better at quick repairs than the Mechanic. He can fix any dent, ding, rumble or rattle with his handy wrench and toolbox, and he doesn’t mind getting dirty in the process. No matter the problem, he’ll have your vehicle running as good as new in no time flat…but he never quite seems to know where to stop!

To the Mechanic, there’s no auto in the world that wouldn’t be improved by adding a couple of stylish fins, a fancy spoiler and a big engine on top of the hood. And while he’s at it, he might just put in a submarine propeller, some ejector seats, a couple of extra wheels and a booster rocket or three. If that’s what he does with a car, imagine what he’ll do with a spaceship!

It’s kind of nice how generic the LEGO Mechanic is. Wearing a dark blue jumpsuit that’s covered in stains, he feels like a down to earth guy who just loves his job. The outfit is simple but works well. With a nametag reading Ralph (or maybe that’s where he works), it just works. Little touches like the wrench decal and the stitching around the pockets may be over the top, but those are the little details we’ve come to expect from the Collectible Minifigure line. The wrench decal was also seen on the Racecar Driver – continuity!

The face is charming with a wide smile and a few grease stains. Though if he wasn’t covered in grease, I think his face would look a little too happy. To finalize the look is a brand new hairpiece: a pompadour! For everyone who has been dying to make an Elvis minifigure, now is your chance. The hair looks great and I’m kind of surprised it took this long to make it.

The rest of the Mechanic’s accessories are what you would expect. A light gray wrench is included. That piece use to be very used for removing tile bricks, but the new crowbar and Brick Separator 2.0 made it obsolete. At least it still works as a wrench! His other main accessory is a brand new bright red toolbox. It’s three studs wide and is similar in design to the boom box. It doesn’t open, but being as small as it is, I wouldn’t expect it to. A display stand is included as well and I am getting really bored from just mentioning them now.

When trying to find the Mechanic, the toolbox is a dead giveaway, and the wrench helps confirm it. Some LEGO minifigures don’t need to be over the top to be excellent and the Mechanic is a fine example of that. He’s filthy, covered in grime but looks so content. When you see him, you can’t help but smile.
