Marvel Mega Bloks Series 3 Review: Magneto

without comments

One thing I’ve really liked about the Marvel Mega Bloks Micro Action blind-bagged assortments is the simple fact that they actively seem to be pairing up heroes and villains. So with the X-Men being the main theme for wave 3, it’s a great idea to ensure the master of magnetism is included.

Like Havok and Cyclops, Magneto is identical to them from the neck down. His classic look is achieved entirely by paint and plastic colors. Decked out in his classic red and purple costume, Magneto looks pretty good for the most part. The purple bands around his ankles and wrists are hit or miss, but at least they colored his boots.

Magneto’s head is entirely new and works pretty well. Much like Iron Man and War Machine, the scale seems slightly off like the sculptor forgot this was supposed to be a helmet, but the face peeking through is a grimacing one with angry eyes. The paint is decent, but the skin tone seems way too tan.

Articulation is the same as all the other Mega Bloks figures with cut wrists and waist, hinged elbows and knees and ball jointed shoulders, hips and neck. His cape prevents him from sitting down.

One thing I really like about the Marvel Mega Bloks figures are the rubber capes. The cloth LEGO ones have always seemed odd to me. Identical to Thor and Loki’s capes, Magneto’s is purple and plugs into his back with ease completing his iconic look. Magneto’s other accessory is a silver shield that originally came with Spider-Man. I get it, it’s metal and he can control it but it just looks like they forgot to give him something. His display brick is a pastel purple which seems very out of place.

Finding Magneto should be fairly easy since the packaging is clearly stamped with A30091MM. While his accessories are lackluster, Magneto is the kind of character who doesn’t really need fancy accessories. He looks right and he has his cape and helmet, what more does Magneto need?
