Marvel Mega Bloks Series 3 Review: Iceman

without comments

It’s weird to think that Iceman is one of the original X-Men sometimes. Here’s a mutant, who is quite possibly one of the most powerful mutants in the Marvel Universe, and yet he rarely seems to do anything. I mean, this is the guy who used to cover himself with snow!

Like many of the Marvel Mega Bloks blind bagged micro action figures, Iceman has the same sculpt from the neck down as many of the heroes, including Spider-Man and Cyclops. It’s bulky but not comically oversized like Venom. Still, it’s a body type that doesn’t seem to quite work for these slimmer characters. Or maybe I just expect too much from these toys.

Iceman’s head is new. The bald look is accurate enough, but the stern face feels out of character – like it was originally intended for someone else all together. Like everyone else so far, Iceman has hinged knees and elbows, cut wrists and waist and ball jointed neck, hips and shoulders. But many of the joints are either way too tight or way too lose thanks to the paint.

With the figure being cast in clear plastic, Iceman gets his color from an awkward white wash. The wash is beyond uneven with some sections getting so much the joints stick, while other areas didn’t seem to get enough which leaves you with a transparent Iceman! If the wash had been ever so slightly tinted with blue, it would all have worked much better.

For an accessory, Iceman comes with a clear (and no wash) “blast” accessory just like Havok. It kind of looks like an ice dagger, but still doesn’t feel right. He also comes with a clear 2×4 brick, which actually works as an impromptu ice slide.

To identify Iceman, his packaging is stamped A29091MM. But I would use that information to avoid getting this figure because he just isn’t good. The paint is so uneven and interferes with the articulation that it is actually a deterrent. I would have much preferred an Iceman figure that was cast in translucent light blue and unpainted.
