I don’t usually talk too much about my personal life here, except for the occasional aside in the middle of a review. It’s just a weird separation that exists in my head of me the person and Jester Goblin.
But over the last few months a lot has changed in my life and it is really impacting my site and my time.
When I graduated from college, it was in the middle of the “worst time to graduate ever” since the economy was essentially nonexistent. I started this blog as a way to stay writing (and to spread my love of the Super Hero Squad) and way to escape. But real life made me settle for a job in an industry I had no passion about. It was great for a while and allowed me a comfortable lifestyle in the confines of the 9-5 workday. But after a while, I grew weary of it and began searching for new employment and in September, I finally made the jump.
So now I handle marketing local toy store here in the Boston area. It’s kind of absurd since I haven’t worked in the toy industry since my senior year of high school (back when Marvel Legends were $7 each and Xevoz were just going on clearance), but it is also completely awesome.
But this awesomeness comes at a cost and the most impactful one for those of you reading this site is that I have a lot less time to write about toys – and even less money to spend on them. So while my completist gene will always be there for some lines, like the Super Hero Squad and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, my collection is going to face some drastic reductions and my LEGO budget is going to get slashed.
This isn’t all bad, I might finally be able to sell off some of the figures in my closet that I still haven’t opened (anyone want a JLU SDCC Giganta?), but it does mean some changes for JesterGoblin.com.
I haven’t stuck to a review a day in over a year, and even a review each weekday hasn’t happened for the last few months. But starting this Wednesday, I’m going to try my best to stick to a Monday-Wednesday-Friday review schedule.
It’s been fun working on this site for over three years now (I completely missed the 3-year mark back in September) and I want to thank all my readers for sticking with me. I’m not going anywhere, I just don’t have the same amount of time. I wanted to bring this up before I get swallowed whole by Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday in a few weeks.
On the other hand, I get to go to Toy Fair this year.
Thanks for reading,
