Hulk Super Hero Squad Review: The Leader & Gray Hulk

with one comment

Having recently rewatched The Incredible Hulk, I’ve got to hand it to the scriptwriters because they really did all they could to cram in as many characters from the Hulk mythos as possible. Sure, there’s the Hulk and Betty, along with General Thunderbolt Ross, the Abomination, Doc Samson and even Samuel Sterns – the Leader!

Just as smart as the Hulk is strong!

The Leader is everything the Hulk isn’t; he’s exceptionally smart, partially telekinetic and telepathic and is able to calculate probabilities to a terrifying accuracy. He’s also on the weak side and has a giant head. And I mean a giant head.

Looking like he stepped out of the Galactic Heroes line, the Leader is a solid chunk of plastic and unarticulated. He’s wearing his hideous orange and yellow jumpsuit and is sporting a cranium that’s about twice as tall as most Super Hero Squad figures (well, unless you think of Invisible Woman). It’s a big enough head to make Sinestro jealous.

Leader is based off his classic look, so his head is a giant cylinder. It’s the look I most associate with him, so it works well for me. He’s also sporting a lovely mustache because he’s evil. In his left hand, he’s clutching some generic technological remote.

Not too bright, but stronger than ever!

Sure, he may be dumb but more often than not, the Hulk wins through blind rage. This version of the Hulk is a sculpt we’ve seen before and I still adore it. Instead of being green though, this Hulk is gray! It’s a great variant that also makes sense.

Hulk is crouching with one fist on the ground and another drawn up by his side. He’s wearing black pants and the shade of gray used on him is perfect and much better than the last gray Hulk attempt. Hulk moves at the neck, waist and shoulders.

There isn’t a whole lot to say about this pack. Sure, the Leader would benefit from a little more articulation but he looks good and I love that he’s got some random technological device. As for the Hulk, he’s a well done variant of an excellent sculpt and works great as a stand-in for Ultimate Hulk in your Ultimates display.
