LEGO Minifigures Series 1 Review: Cheerleader (8683)

without comments

I completely broke down and tracked down some of Wave 1 of the LEGO Minifigures. I just couldn’t help myself! After snagging some of wave 2, I knew it was going to be hard to resist. This pack isn’t super exciting, but part of me just adores her.

“Gimmie an L! Gimmie an E! Gimmie a G! Gimmie an O! Yaaay!”

The Cheerleader is perpetually filled to bursting with energy, excitement and enthusiasm. She prefers cartwheels and handsprings to plain old ordinary walking, and she waves her pom-poms around wildly whenever she talks, which is pretty much all of the time.

The Cheerleader loves to cheer people on, no matter what they’re doing. Whether they’re changing a light bulb, building a wall or just crossing the street, she’s always there with a peppy cheerleading routine to encourage them to do their best and never give up. It can actually get kind of annoying sometimes, but her perpetual good mood and sunny smile are so contagious that it’s hard to really mind.

It’s surprising to me that LEGO had never made a LEGO cheerleader before. Between their fluctuating girl lines and the year they did a bunch of sport-themed sets, cheerleaders seem like the kind of figure that would fit right in an arena-style set.

The LEGO cheerleader is wearing a sporting blue and white uniform. Her legs are painted to look like she’s wearing knee-high socks and a pleated white and blue skirt. There’s a stripe of yellow on her legs (only on the outside and front though). Her torso is blue but painted to create the illusion of a female figure along with some lines to show off cleavage. She’s also got a large M on her chest, which looks good but I think an L would have made more sense.

Her face is a new (I think) smiling female that looks almost like she’s trying to fight some pain – the teeth just seem to push it beyond a smile. Her hair is a pale yellow with bangs and a super long ponytail. Like all LEGO figures she moves at the legs, shoulders, wrist and neck, but her hair prevents her head from moving.

For accessories, she comes with the plain black display plate and two white pompoms with blue highlights. The pompoms are a nice touch and very well executed with handles on the inside so they have great coverage.

The LEGO Cheerleader is just adorable. The paint applications on the legs and torso do a lot. The face isn’t perfect, but still looks good. But the pompoms are perfectly done. Now if only LEGO would release a red version for the opposing side!
