LEGO Minifigure Review Series 2: Lifeguard (8684)

LEGO has one thing about it that’s kind of odd: water doesn’t really work. With a world made of bricks, the idea of something fluid kind of falls apart. Underwater themed sets just let it slide by showing the packaging with a blue backdrop, but LEGO sets seem to exist either above the water or below it.

“Just yell ‘help’ and I’m on my way!”

The Lifeguard is trained in all of the latest life saving techniques and knows how to use each and every piece of rescue equipment at the beach. She sits in her high chair, keeping a careful eye on the ocean so that everyone who puts even a toe in the water is safe.

Helping people is the Lifeguard’s passion, and when she’s not lifeguarding, she’s in medical school studying to be a doctor. She wants to make sure that no one ever gets hurt on her watch. Even the sharks feel safe when she’s around!

Calling this figure a Lifeguard doesn’t change one simple fact: this figure is clearly Pamela Anderson from Baywatch. Wearing a red bathing suit with the initials “G.T.” on the right breast instead of C.J., the suit even has a small lifesaver on the left side of the stomach.

The paint on the torso is well done with black lines to create the illusion of the female figure and some additional embellishments to make sure the figure looks well endowed. The legs are painted with a red V to give the lower body some extra shape that the regular LEGO waist piece doesn’t offer.

Lifeguard G.T.’s face has a closed mouth with a raised eyebrow. It looks a lot like the Nurse, only happy. I love how varied LEGO has gotten with the female figure heads lately; they’ve come a long way since the red lips and eyelashes days. For hair, she’s got pale blonde hair pulled back in a long ponytail.

For accessories, G.T. comes with the 4×3 black display stand and a rescue buoy. The buoy has grips on each side for LEGO hands and a handle in the back as well. It’s a fine little piece that makes a lot of sense, but a LEGO lifesaver would have been more fun.

This is a fine little figure who perfectly matches up as being a LEGO Pamela Anderson. But what really needs to be made now is a LEGO David Hasselhoff so I can get a sweet LEGO Knight Rider.
