LEGO Minifigure Review Series 2: Ringmaster (8684)

without comments

After thumbing through some old issues of the Amazing Spider-Man, I realized I’m not the only one who sees mundane jobs being excellent inspiration for up-and-coming super villains. Then again, I don’t think being a circus ringmaster is a mundane job.

“Ladies, gentlemen and children of all ages, you will not believe your eyes!”

The Ringmaster loves being in the spotlight and running the show. He’s in charge of the entire circus, and he always makes sure to keep the tightropes tight, the sawdust fresh, the trapeze rings shiny and all the animals fed and happy.

To the Ringmaster, the best thing in the entire world is the sound of the audience cheering and clapping all around the big-top circus tent. That’s why he always does his very best to put on the most spectacular show possible – and to outdo the performance from the night before!

It’s got to be hard being the Ringleader because he’s always out dressed by the Magician. Wearing a stunning red jacket with bronze buttons and a nice white shirt underneath, the Ringleader is no slouch when it comes to dressing up. The little bowtie and a lapel that looks suspiciously like a dandelion head all make for a guy who looks kind of weird.

The legs are black with a white hip piece that creates the illusion of a longer white shirt (and in turn, a jacket that’s too small). The white gloves are a nice touch though.

The face is opened mouth, like he’s yelling to the crowed. His handlebar mustache goes up to his eyes and would make Salvador Dali proud. The eyebrows are great though because depending on the angle, the Ringmaster either looks elated or petrified!

For accessories, this pack comes with a white whip and a black top hat. The whip isn’t terribly exciting and being cast in white plastic feels a touch odd. The figure also comes with a black display stand.

Sadly, the Ringmaster doesn’t come with any animal to tame. The inclusion of something little like a frog would have been a nice touch, if a tad absurd. This is a figure that’s begging to be packaged with a lion, bear or elephant though. Instead, he’ll just have to hang out with a mime and a clown.
