LEGO Minifigure Series 4 Sailor Review (8804)

Not every LEGO figure can be super exciting to everyone. I’m sure there is someone out there who doesn’t love Gorillas, Cyborgs and Zombies (even if they are wrong), so while the Sailor isn’t terribly exciting, he’s still a fine little figure.

“Aye aye, Cap’n!”

The brave and trusty Sailor can always be counted on in a nautical emergency. He can tie knots like nobody’s business, spot a lighthouse through his spyglass from a hundred leagues’ distance in the middle of a storm, and hoist a mainsail or batten down the hatches in no time flat.

The Sailor has spent his whole life at sea, and he knows every tide and fathom like the back of his hand. He just doesn’t feel like himself if he’s not out on a sailing ship, feeling the deck roll beneath his feet and hearing the gulls squawking overhead. Freedom, adventure and the great wide sea: that’s the life for him!

Instead of being a pirate or a Viking, LEGO decided that there needed to be a more “classic” sailor figure. I don’t really know why, but now he’s here. Dressed up all in white, very little of this figure is painted. A navy scarf is around his neck that wraps around to his back. His stripped shirt underneath is partially revealed.

The Sailor’s face is unique with him having one eye closed and a smirk on his face. It works great when he’s using his accessory, but otherwise it just looks weird.

For a hat, a new sailor’s cap has been crafted with a navy anchor printed on it. The cap is at a slant so it doesn’t sit evenly on his head. His telescope is a silver piece that works well but isn’t terribly exciting. A black display stand is also included for the figure.

And that’s really all there is to this Sailor. He just kind of exists. Sure, he could work as a member of the Village People with the Tribal Chief or something, but for the most part I just find him dull. Yes, he’s very well made and top quality but he’s just a bit dull.
