LEGO Minifigure Series 4 Surfer Girl Review (8804)

I find it hard to believe that LEGO already ran out of ideas for the collectible minifigure series. Sure, part of me can’t believe how much LEGO figures cost nowadays but this wave gives us not only the second skater, but also the second surfer!

“The best wave is always the next wave!”

The Surfer Girl loves everything about the ocean, from the biggest sandy beach to the tiniest tropical fish. She’s happy just to be in the water, and she’s even happier still when she finds a new surfing challenge to test her skill.

As long as the sky is clear and the surf is wild, the Surfer Girl can be found right in the middle of her element, riding the tallest wave she can find and whooping at the top of her lungs the whole way back to the beach. And as soon as she reaches the shore, she runs right back into the water to chase the next big splash!

At first glance, I thought there wasn’t really anything new about this figure. The board – originally came with the Surfer, just a new coat of paint. The hair is similar to the Tennis Player and Nurse, just a lighter shade of brown. Even the face looks surprisingly similar to the Nurse’s but the more I looked at the Surfer Girl side by side with other figures, I realized how unique she actually is!

Wearing a black, silver and purple wetsuit, LEGO’s normal tricks of making her figure more feminine by giving her a slight hourglass figure didn’t exactly work as well as it could since her torso is cast in black anyway. But the purple detailing on her body and legs look great and the gray accents look good. Centered on her chest is the wave symbol. Her arms are bare and yellow, while her back isn’t painted at all.

Surfer Girl’s face mirrors the Nurse’s but with a few minor changes. The slight smirk is there still, but this time the lips are light brown giving the illusion that she’s a tanner than normal minifigure, while her eyes have little lashes. Her hair is a ponytail and looks great in light brown – like she’s someone who spends a lot of time in the sun.

For accessories, Surfer Girl comes with a black display stand and a surfboard. The new surfboard is identical to the Surfer’s but with a new coat of paint to set it apart. It’s covered in dark pink flames that look pretty good. The actual design of the surfboard is great with the two pegs on top and the space for five on the bottom. Plus the edges are graspable!

For a figure that originally struck me as way too much reuse, she’s surprisingly unique. The new face and new hair color expand the female LEGO options nicely since it seems like a lot of them are looking similar lately. Is she essential? Not in my LEGO world but she’s definitely worth grabbing, especially if you know of any brothers and sisters who play with LEGO together.
