Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Iron Patriot & War Machine

without comments

Just like the Thor and Spider-Man pack, this set is simply two repaints tossed together, but unlike that set; both of these figures are fantastic. But toy manufacturers must love Iron Man and War Machine because those two can be any colors and still work. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Spider-Man & Thor

without comments

Packing two hard to find figures together seems like a good idea, but I’m wondering what Hasbro is up to when it comes to this two-pack. With both figures being very minor variants, it seems kind of pointless. Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Battle in the Frozen Land

with one comment

All of these Avengers Thor Super Hero Squad packs make me think of how Collector’s Pack #4 really should be part of the Thor line. I mean, it gave you a frost giant, three of the Avengers, Loki and Enchantress! Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Raid on Enemy Headquarters

without comments

By packing the Super Hero Squad movie packs under the Avengers banner, Marvel doesn’t have to worry about getting too much stuff on the shelves at once like they did when Iron Man and Hulk kept bumping heads in the toy aisle. But they’ve got to be careful trying to sell people on Captain America when Thor is after the spotlight. Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Asgardian Smash

with one comment

Since the Avengers movie will tie in Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America into a single continuity, it makes sense for some cross referencing to happen in the toy lines as well. But instead of doing fun things like expanding the offerings, Hasbro is using it as an excuse to repackage old figures. Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: War Mechs

with one comment

This three-pack makes absolutely no sense. It is three repaints; one of them is a new character who nobody has been clamoring for. But Iron Man seems to constantly be adding new things to his armory, but when the changes are so trivial it isn’t really worth it. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Iron Man & Tiger Shark

without comments

One big thing doesn’t make any sense about this pack: the pairing. I have no idea why Iron Man with a removable helmet would be battling a shark man who lives underwater. Makes the fight seem kind of one sided, doesn’t it? Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Hercules & Thor

without comments

Religion in the Marvel Universe has got to be weird. On one hand, you’ve got characters like Daredevil who are defined by being Catholic. On the other hand, you’ve got Thor, Ares and Hercules fighting alongside Captain America and Iron Man. Even in House of M when Kitty Pryde is teaching a class, she asks who the first mutant was – then clarifies by saying “Don’t say Jesus or Moses, I’m talking about confirmed mutants.” Read the rest of this entry »

Super Hero Squad Review: Avengers Attack 7-Pack

with 2 comments

While the second of the Super Hero Squad 7-packs doesn’t feature any brand new sculpts, it definitely fills a hole or two in most people’s collections by bringing together a fantastic New Avengers team up and three who haven’t been seen in a long, long time.

Devious plotting is revealed as the Avengers strike at the heart of the base where the Leader hides. The evil super genius has recruited a number of dangerous villains to his cause. Crossbones is more than happy to test his skills against Captain America and Wolverine, while Red She-Hulk battles Spider-Man and Iron Man! Read the rest of this entry »

Super Hero Squad Review: Defeat of Dr. Doom 7-Pack

without comments

With the end of Galactic Heroes getting announced at the New York Toy Fair, many collectors in the Super Hero Squad community began getting worried. Especially when it was announced that the two-packs were being phased out in favor for the movie line three-packs, then out of the blue – this appeared at Toys “R” Us!

Dr. Doom teams up with a former minion to take out the heroes that continue to stand in his way. The heroes nearly fall victim to the superheated assault of Volcana, but it takes more than a little hot lava to keep a hero down. They fight back, and even the combined might of Dr. Doom and Volcana can’t stand under the onslaught!
