Marvel Mega Bloks Micro Action Review: Black Costume Spider-Man

without comments

Just like how there were actually three different versions of Iron Man in the first wave of the Marvel Mega Bloks Micro Action blind bagged figures, Spider-Man got in on the fun and included a third version of himself too! But at least this variant is a popular one. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Black Costume Spider-Man & Green Goblin

without comments

He’s finally arrived! After four years of waiting and waiting for a comic accurate Green Goblin to show up in the Super Hero Squad, Hasbro finally released him stateside. Sure, some of the more crazy collectors (myself included) imported the Spider-Man Saves the Day set to get Norman Osborn and Mary Jane, but now he’s here! Read the rest of this entry »

Super Hero Squad Review: Avengers Attack 7-Pack

with 2 comments

While the second of the Super Hero Squad 7-packs doesn’t feature any brand new sculpts, it definitely fills a hole or two in most people’s collections by bringing together a fantastic New Avengers team up and three who haven’t been seen in a long, long time.

Devious plotting is revealed as the Avengers strike at the heart of the base where the Leader hides. The evil super genius has recruited a number of dangerous villains to his cause. Crossbones is more than happy to test his skills against Captain America and Wolverine, while Red She-Hulk battles Spider-Man and Iron Man! Read the rest of this entry »

Super Hero Squad Review: Iron Fist & Black Costume Spider-Man

without comments

The Super Hero Squad figures draw a lot from the comics – far more than you’d expect at first glance. Between packs screaming Civil War, Secret Wars and Secret Invasion, a handful of them allude to specific pairings from the books. Like this one, which seems like it’s straight out of New Avengers.

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Ronin & Black Costume Spider-Man

without comments

Some characters have multiple identities, while others are passed from one hero to another. But in rare cases, there’s a character that’s a mix of both and it doesn’t really make sense. Or Brian Michael Bendis just really likes Ronin so they keep forcing him in where ever possible.

Spider-Man Super Hero Squad Review: The Sand Pit Stand-Off

without comments

The last hurrah of the Spider-Man Super Hero Squad ended up being more of a whimper than a bang. As a line, it was really all over the place. Some of the two-packs were excellent, while others were lacking. The vehicles and playset were odd but the whole line didn’t meld together as well as it could have. So that leaves the last piece of the Spider-Man Super Hero Squad puzzle: the 5-pack.

The sensational Spider-Man is locked in battle with his most dangerous enemies ever! He leaps from construction crane to bulldozer, slinging webs like never before. Meanwhile, New Goblin zooms through the sky on his sky stick, hurling pumpkin bombs, even as Venom and Sandman fight tooth and claw to be the first to land a punch on the web slinger!

Spider-Man and friends finally managed to escape their stranglehold of the Spider-Man Super Hero Squad and finally broke through into the main Super Hero Squad (Okay, technically this happened in Collector’s Pack #1 first). No longer bound by the movie license, Spider-Man can finally return to his roots and the first debut is outstanding.

Spider-Man 3 Super Hero Squad Review: Sandman & Black Costume Spider-Man

without comments

When I first heard that Sandman was going to be one of the bad guys in Spider-Man 3, I was a little disappointed. After all, he is the guy that Spider-Man first beat by vacuuming him up. Then it was teased that Harry would become some sort of goblin. Finally, the whole black costume got leaked and the reveal that Venom was also in it suddenly made Sandman more interesting. In the comics, Venom ended up fighting with Sandman, took a bite out of him and that caused him to dissolve for a few years. So it could have been an interesting battle where Sandman has a change of heart and defends Spider-Man from Venom and ends up dying. Instead he flew away as a cloud of sand.
