Action League Deluxe Pack Review: Chemo & Batman

with 3 comments

My knowledge of the DC Universe isn’t nearly as impressive as what I know about Marvel or the Ninja Turtles. Basically if it wasn’t in Batman the Animated Series or the Justice League cartoon, I don’t know a whole lot about it. But sometimes you don’t need to know anything about the figures to have a great toy.

Batman needs to use caution while battling the toxic terror known as Chemo.

Action League Review: Green Lantern Guy Gardner & Dr. Polaris

with 2 comments

The fourth wave of the Batman Brave and the Bold Action League has been a pain to track down. Then again, this one pack may not actually be part of wave 4. It’s more like wave 4.5. But what frustrates me the most is that this pack is near impossible to find, but may be the best Action League pack released.

Green Lantern fights the evil personality of Doctor Polaris to bring out his good side.

Action League Review: Batman with Batcopter

without comments

It’s amazing that for a guy who dresses up like a bat and has more money than Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne can design anything but only under a single condition: it must have the word bat in the name. I mean, who else can build a submarine or a motorcycle from scratch?

Batman is Gotham City’s crime fighting eye-in-the-sky piloting his high-tech Batcopter!

Review: Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League – Batman & Scarecrow

without comments

These tiny heroes are addicting! While I don’t watch the cartoon these toys are based on, there’s something alluring about these guys. But I think I know what makes me love these figures so much: they look like they belong in The New Frontier!

The fear-gas dispensing Scarecrow has a plan to paralyze the city. Batman has a problem with this.

Toy Review: Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League – Black Lightning & Wildcat

without comments

It’s always a rare treat when Mattel makes a two-pack in the action league line that not only includes two new figures, but also two brand new sculpts. So when the latest two-pack of Black Lightning and Wildcat came out, it’s great to get it and find out not only are both figures good, they’re great.

Black Lightning leads a team of teenage “Outsiders” on a malicious spree until Wildcat shows the rambunctious rogues a more productive way to make a difference.

Toy Review: Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League – Arch Rivals Battle Pack Exclusive 6-Pack

without comments

Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League is often compared to Hasbro’s Super Hero Squad, and with good reason. Both are highly-stylized figures of classic superheroes that are sold in either twopacks, vehicle sets or in collector packs. Toys R Us got their own exclusive 6-pack of Action League figures that features five repacks and one exclusive figure!

Toy Review: Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League – Batmobile with Batman vs Clock King

without comments

While I’ve said there are universal truths when it comes to toys, there is one I haven’t touched upon yet: the sheer awesomeness of the Batmobile. It’s one of those toys every boy should have while growing up, and thankfully this toy mostly lives up to the legacy that I remember going back to the Batmobile that was released with the Tim Burton film. But while this one is in the style of the Brave and the Bold, it is an excellent representation of what the Batmobile should be.

Time is running out and Batman must use every device in the arsenal of the Batmobile to stop the insane machinations of the Clock King!

Toy Review: Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League – Batman with Batsub

without comments

Many superheroes have tried to ride Batman’s coattails when it comes to having the coolest gear. But for every Batmobile released, you’ve got to deal with Spider-buggy or Superman’s Justice Walker. While other heroes may not have the coolest toys, Batman rarely disappoints. After all, when you’ve got a hero who is so obsessive compulsive where he has a plan for everything – and the resources to build whatever he wants, the idea of him custom building a submarine in his own image doesn’t seem too farfetched.

Though it makes you wonder who he contracts the work out to…

Toy Review: Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League Single Packs

without comments

There are a few things in toy collecting that bug me. First are toy companies that make getting their product near impossible. Whether it’s NECA teasing us about TMNT or anytime Mattel releases a new product, collectors are bound to get disappointed. But there is another aspect of collectors that bother me more and those are the ones who have a sense of entitlement. I personally follow a very important rule: one month a year I do not buy any toys for myself. That month is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Part of that comes from my time working at Toys R Us, where I would see grown men (who would come in daily looking for a specific G.I. Joe) fight small children and parents for toys they were buying for the holidays.

But sometimes this policy I have doesn’t always work out and I occasionally miss things. And that happened to me when Mattel barely released their Brave and the Bold single packed figures. Four of them are easy to find but Atom has proven to be impossible at anything less than a 600% mark up. Good work Mattel, releasing a figure whose power makes him smaller and not thinking people who collect both Action League and Brave and the Bold figures will want him. And he’s the only unique character in the whole assortment that hasn’t been released any other way yet.

Toy Review: Batman the Brave and the Bold Action League – Red Tornado & Batman

without comments

If there is one thing Mattel loves its endless reuse. Their Masters of the Universe and DC Superheroes lines are both prime examples of that. But when dealing with the Brave and the Bold Action League, Mattel isn’t so generous. Instead of new characters being made or worthwhile repaints, Mattel keeps repacking the same figure again and again.

Batman and the meteorological android, Red Tornado team-up to save the city.
