Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Attack of Loki

with 2 comments

It’s been a long time since the toy gods have smiled down on me. I think the last time it happened was when I stumbled across a full set of the Wal-Mart Marvel Legends Giant-Man series. But over the weekend, I discovered the full set of the Avengers Super Hero Squad packs at Newbury Comics in Harvard Square! Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Avengers Review: The Hulk #5000022

without comments

I love it when the LEGO Store has giveaways since they just reward me for already buying way too much there. Almost all of my LEGO purchases now occur solely at LEGO Stores, I frequently end up with an extra set tossed into my giant bag. Is it bad that I don’t know if LEGO bags some smaller than massive? LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Review: Hulk’s Helicarrier Breakout #6868

with 3 comments

I have one big issue with this set. They claim this is the Helicarrier. The box artwork vaguely tries to make it work but it really doesn’t. Had they just called this Banner’s Lab or something, it would have been fine. But calling it the Helicarrier means I think of this. Read the rest of this entry »

Playskool Heroes Marvel Super Heroes Review: Hulk & Thor

without comments

It’s kind of weird that my adoration of Super Hero Squad figures didn’t extend to Hasbro’s second attempt with the Marvel Super Heroes Adventures Playskool Heroes. They’re similar in scale and good toys, but they just don’t seem to appeal to me. At least this set gives me a minor excuse. Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Asgardian Smash

with one comment

Since the Avengers movie will tie in Hulk, Thor, Iron Man and Captain America into a single continuity, it makes sense for some cross referencing to happen in the toy lines as well. But instead of doing fun things like expanding the offerings, Hasbro is using it as an excuse to repackage old figures. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Iron Man & Red Hulk

without comments

Part of me hopes someone at Hasbro reads this. Part of me hopes someone there doesn’t because I am enraged. And not just because this pack is simply two repaints. Read the rest of this entry »

Super Hero Squad Review: Defeat of Dr. Doom 7-Pack

without comments

With the end of Galactic Heroes getting announced at the New York Toy Fair, many collectors in the Super Hero Squad community began getting worried. Especially when it was announced that the two-packs were being phased out in favor for the movie line three-packs, then out of the blue – this appeared at Toys “R” Us!

Dr. Doom teams up with a former minion to take out the heroes that continue to stand in his way. The heroes nearly fall victim to the superheated assault of Volcana, but it takes more than a little hot lava to keep a hero down. They fight back, and even the combined might of Dr. Doom and Volcana can’t stand under the onslaught!

Super Hero Squad Review: Nova & Hulk

with one comment

Wave 15 of the Super Hero Squad was odd because it only included two brand new characters. In fact, if wave 15 had Captain America in it, all of the heavy hitters would be included (Iron Man, Hulk, Spider-Man and Wolverine). But including such heavy hitters can be a tad confusing, so how do you justify packing Hulk and Nova together? Both have been in space!

Super Hero Squad Collector’s Pack #4 Review

without comments

If there’s a trend in the Super Hero Squad Collector’s Packs, it’s that the odd numbered ones aren’t that exciting while the even numbered ones are really good, and apparently impossible to find! Gearing up for the Avengers movie, this six-pack almost makes too much sense as a set.

Hulk Super Hero Squad Review: Gamma Lab Playset with Hulk & Spider-Man

without comments

The Hulk Super Hero Squad line almost directly mirrored the Spider-Man Super Hero Squad. Thankfully, Hasbro omitted any additional absurd vehicles (if there had been a Hulk Battle Truck I would have lost it) but there was one repaint in the Hulk line that didn’t make much sense. And it just so happened to be a playset.
