LEGO Ninjago Review: Mezmo Booster #9555

with one comment

To all kids between the ages of 6 and 12, I am insanely jealous of you. When I was your age, LEGO lines were great with a wide variety of themes like Ice Planet, Spyroid, City, Pirates, Castle and some newer ideas like Aquazone and UFO. But that pales in comparison to the amazing products kids now get! With licensed themes like Harry Potter, Star Wars and Lord of Rings it’s hard not to be jealous. But when it comes to Ninjago, I’m in awe. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Ninjago Review: Zane ZX Booster #9554

I’ve got to hand it to LEGO; they’ve really got a strong understanding of how to target different markets. For teenagers and adults, they keep everything strong with licensing gold mines like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. But for kids, they have the complete and utter madness that is Ninjago. What is really amazing is how the line caught on and ended up selling out completely – twice! Now on its third, and possibly final, wave, LEGO is pushing out product as quickly as they can in hopes of maybe finally keeping it on shelves. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Ninjago Review: Ninja Training #30082

I’m a sucker for the LEGO impulse sets that they keep releasing. Usually retailing for under $4, these small builds remind me a lot of the old $2.99 sets from when I was a kid. Sure, now they’re poly bagged instead of coming in boxes, but I don’t see any reason to keep toys trapped in their packaging (unless the packaging is really, really cool). But if that is the case, buy two! Still, I love that LEGO is actively making sure they have small sets that can actually be bought with pocket change. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Ninjago Review: Blacksmith Shop #2508

without comments

Every now and then I get a LEGO set that just sits on my desk built for ages and I can’t bring myself to say much of anything about it. When a set is great, it’s easy to be glowing. Or when something is laughably awful, those are fun to write as well. But a set that is just okay and nothing more or less? Well, those tend to dwell in the purgatory that is my desk.

General Kruncha has busted into Kai’s blacksmith shop to steal the secret map with the location of the 4 golden Ninjago weapons! Help Kai to fend him off using the Blacksmith Shop’s hidden arsenal of weapons– Spinjitzu style! Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Ninjago Review: Ninja Glider with Zane #30080

(Note: photos were taken while traveling for work, hence the awkward lighting and odd backdrops.)

I love it when LEGO takes well know bricks and reuses them in creative ways I could never imagine. Sure, the leg-table from Pirates of the Caribbean may have taken it a bit too far. But the genius reuse of skeleton legs in the Winter Toy Shop as an outdoor light was genius. Sadly, this set seems to be on the side of a bit too far. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Ninjago Review: Ice Dragon Attack 2260

without comments

Ninjago doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. It feels like three random lines that LEGO just kind of shoved together in hopes that some part of it would stick. Ninjas fighting the undead is a concept I can get behind. Ninjas fighting undead who drive ATVs and motorcycles, that’s a bit odd. Ninjas fighting undead who ride ATVs and motorcycles and battle by standing on tops? LEGO is messing with us, right?

Zane flies into the perilous realm of the underworld to recapture the stolen shurikens of ice from the skeleton army. Suddenly, Krazi appears out of the darkness and he has a different plan! Blast him with the Ice Dragon’s frozen breath before he gets away with the treasure!

LEGO Ninjago Review: Ninja Ambush (2258)

without comments

Having missed out on the undead scourge that destroyed the LEGO Castle world, I’m making sure that it never happens again. So I’m devouring Ninjago sets like they’re just as awesome as they actually are. Ninjas versus undead skeletons are about as awesome as anything can get. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Ninjago Review: Ninja Training Outpost (2516)

without comments

The newest theme in LEGO is an odd amalgam of parts. Part Feudal Japan in the form of ninja, part undead scourges invading, part tabletop game and part futuristic vehicles, Ninjago feels all over the place. But LEGO knows some people would be just fine with Ninja versus Skeletons so this line is only as absurd as you let it be. Read the rest of this entry »
