Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Attack of Loki

with 2 comments

It’s been a long time since the toy gods have smiled down on me. I think the last time it happened was when I stumbled across a full set of the Wal-Mart Marvel Legends Giant-Man series. But over the weekend, I discovered the full set of the Avengers Super Hero Squad packs at Newbury Comics in Harvard Square! Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Review: Quinjet Aerial Battle #6869

without comments

The final Marvel LEGO set is the biggest one, but instead of being the Helicarrier or some cityscape for our heroes to destroy, it ends up being the classic Avengers vehicle- the Quinjet! Part of me is still in awe that we even HAVE LEGO Avengers. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Review: Hulk’s Helicarrier Breakout #6868

with 3 comments

I have one big issue with this set. They claim this is the Helicarrier. The box artwork vaguely tries to make it work but it really doesn’t. Had they just called this Banner’s Lab or something, it would have been fine. But calling it the Helicarrier means I think of this. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Review: Loki’s Cosmic Cube Escape #6867

without comments

Next in the Avengers LEGO lineup includes the big bad and two heroes. I think the reason I like this so much is when you combine it with Captain America’s Avenging Cycle set, you end up with an evenly balanced battle!

Seize the stolen cosmic cube from Loki! Loki is escaping from S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters with the powerful cosmic cube. If he succeeds, he could use it to wreak havoc on the world! Can Iron Man take to the skies in his amazing armored suit and chase down the speeding off-roader or will Loki escape with the cosmic cube? Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Mega Bloks Series 2 Review: Loki

without comments

The final pairing in the Mega Bloks Marvel line are two classic brothers locked in an eternal battle – Thor and Loki! I’ve got to hand it to Mega Bloks for managing to include three great pairings of heroes and classic villains; it works so much better than the Spider-Man-centric first wave. Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Battle for Asgard’s Vault

with 3 comments

As Marvel and Hasbro started getting ready for the release of the upcoming Thor movie, they’re taking a different route with the Super Hero Squad three-packs. Instead of making lines for each of the different Avengers, Hasbro is releasing mixed cases that include Iron Man, Thor and Captain America – each with their own packaging! Super Hero Squad Collector’s Pack #4 Review

without comments

If there’s a trend in the Super Hero Squad Collector’s Packs, it’s that the odd numbered ones aren’t that exciting while the even numbered ones are really good, and apparently impossible to find! Gearing up for the Avengers movie, this six-pack almost makes too much sense as a set.

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Loki & Thor, Lord of Asgard

without comments

I always love listening to Stan Lee explain how he came up with various ways of giving his heroes super powers. Anything that sounded vaguely scientific would get included, like gamma rays, radiation, cosmic rays and even mutants. But there was one other well he went to for inspiration: mythology! It’s amazing, because in many ways comic books are the same as the mythology of old.
