DC Universe Action League Review: Orange Lantern Larfleeze with Glomulus

without comments

Several years ago, Geoff Johns at DC comics introduced a concept that in hindsight seems stupidly obvious: what if there were lanterns of every color. Grabbing the rainbow, Hal Jordan soon found himself facing off against Yellow Lanterns, Red Lanterns, Blue Lanterns, the Star Sapphires (violet, I guess) and a single Orange Lantern. DC Universe Action League Review: Batman with Hydrobat Sled

DC Universe Action League Batman with Hydrobat Sled

An Action League wave wouldn’t be complete without the Batman.  But in an unexpected twist, Batman is not only a brand new figure, but also a release of a figure originally shown off years ago for the Brave and the Bold Action League. Read the rest of this entry »

DC Universe Action League Review: Green Lantern Hal Jordan with Cannon Construct

DC Universe Action League Green Lantern Hal Jordan with Cannon Construct
Out of the blue, the new wave of the DC Universe Action League (which in retrospect is a terrible name when trying to Google these figures) showed up at my local Wal-Mart… and already on clearance. This sixth wave was originally shown off at Toy Fair 2013, but something tells me Mattel wasn’t thrilled about making an entire series dedicated to Flashpoint, only to have DC introduce the New 52. DC Universe Action League Review: New 52 5-Pack

with one comment

I’m at a crossroads with my toy collecting. Two of my favorite lines are either in decline or canceled, I can’t quite tell. Super Hero Squad sputtered out three more Avengers themed three-packs, but nothing else is on the horizon. Maybe New York Comic Con will finally show some items related to Iron Man 3 or one of the other sequels?

The other line that seems to have mysteriously ended is DC Universe Action League. After the odd thematic choice of a Flashpoint wave, the next round of two-packs never appeared at retail – or at SDCC. But while wandering Toys “R” Us, I stumbled upon the mythical 5-pack that was shown off almost a year ago! Read the rest of this entry »

DC Universe Flashpoint Action League Review: Cyborg & Element Woman

without comments

I think I figured out the entire reason for Flashpoint to have happened, and it wasn’t to allow the New 52 to exist. It was just to change Cyborg’s costume. Read the rest of this entry »

DC Universe Flashpoint Action League Review: Wonder Woman & Aquaman

without comments

As the world without the Justice League, there didn’t seem to be anyone around to keep Aquaman and Wonder Woman in check during Flashpoint. But thanks to political intrigue and some awful cop outs, the Flashpoint storyline ended with a whimper because heroes always have to be heroes – even if they decapitated someone just a few issues earlier. DC Universe Flashpoint Action League Review: Project Superman & Batman

without comments

Flashpoint isn’t just a universe without the Flash; it’s a whole universe without Bruce Wayne and Superman. And without those two, everything is different. Also, this review contains some major spoilers for Flashpoint. Read the rest of this entry »

DC Universe Flashpoint Action League Review: The Flash & Citizen Cold

without comments

My comic reading is on quite a delay now. Years ago, I was at my local comic store every Wednesday to pick up my stack. But then I went to college and began getting my books every few weeks. Then it became even less. So it wasn’t until the last few days that I actually got around reading Flashpoint – all of it. Including every tie-in which I think was a mistake because for an elaborate Elseworlds tale, not a whole lot ended up happening. Read the rest of this entry »

DC Universe Action League Review: Arkillo & Yellow Lantern Sinestro

without comments

No Action League wave would be complete without including some version of the Skittle Corps from Green Lantern. I mean, Action League has given us more members of the Green Lantern Corps than most teams so it’s about time the Sinestro Corps get their due. Read the rest of this entry »

DC Universe Action League Review: Batman & Bronze Tiger

without comments

It’s been so long that I’ve only been reviewing LEGO sets that I started to forget what buying other toys was like. But amazingly, just after Christmas the latest wave of the DC Universe Action League arrived on shelves! And much like the Brave and the Bold Action League, Mattel has gone deep into the DC Universe to pull out a character even I don’t know anything about. Read the rest of this entry »
