Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: M.O.U.S.E.R.S. 7-Pack

with 2 comments

I love it when toy companies finally learn. Over the last two and a half decades, Mousers have been in a weird limbo of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe. The first one was far too big, the second ones, while impressive, were accessories to a less than exciting figure and with NECA, they were great but a challenge to track down. But after all this time, Playmates hasn’t just gotten them right, they’ve gotten them perfect.

This review is part of the genius Toy Review Advent Calendar put together by the excellent PoeGhostal and Noisy at ItsAllTrue.net – and they’ve managed to get back into the game of reviewing!

LEGO TMNT Review: Baxter Robot Rampage #79105

without comments

With each new version of the Ninja Turtles, it is always exciting to see how classic characters get revisited. Baxter Stockman has gone from robotics genius, to mutant fly, to disemboweled scientist and now he’s… a guy who just got really lucky. Or really unlucky it hasn’t all panned out yet. LEGO TMNT Review: Shredder’s Dragon Bike #79101

without comments

I officially don’t understand scale in the LEGO universe. You would think a motorcycle would be smaller than a horse, right? Turns out you’re wrong or Dragon Bike means something else completely. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO TMNT Review: Stealth Shell in Pursuit #79102

without comments

I love the Ninja Turtles. Seriously. When I look back at the stories that shaped me into who I am today, four properties have had drastic influences shaping me into who I am today: The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Spider-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (of if you would prefer, J.R.R. Tolkien, J.K. Rowling, Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird). So when I say I love LEGO right now, it goes beyond just the plastic bricks.

Or maybe LEGO implanted a chip in my brain while I was sleeping to get as much of my money as possible. Both seem like realistic options. Read the rest of this entry »

LEGO TMNT Review: Kraang Lab Escape #79100

without comments

If you told the seven-year-old version of me that one day there would be LEGO Ninja Turtles, he would have screamed until his lungs gave out while running around the house recklessly. When twenty-seven year-old me finally got his hands on them, the response was surprisingly similar. Read the rest of this entry »

Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Dogpound

with one comment

For those of you watching the new cartoon, this review contains spoilers for it. The true identity of Dogpound is revealed on the packaging and it certainly makes for an interesting twist on what I assumed was just a bulky, brawling character. So if you don’t want to be spoiled, don’t read this review. Or read this character’s bio. You’ve been warned. Read the rest of this entry »

Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Fishface

without comments

With the first wave of the Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles, I got to judge the figures on characters that I already knew and loved. Well, except the Kraang but that one is close enough to a few familiar brains that is doesn’t count. But with the new cartoon, what makes me excited is the return of mutants. Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Metalhead

with 6 comments

The second wave of the new Nickelodeon TMNT figures have finally started to show up on the east coast (being located in Boston means it takes forever for Playmates’ toys to get here). This micro wave includes a new hero and two new villains, but they are included in existing assortments so good luck hunting for them! Read the rest of this entry »

Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Dragon Chopper with Dragon Fang Foot Soldier

with one comment

I’ve got to hand it to Playmates; I think they’ve learned some valuable lessons about how to package figures are vehicles together. If any character should get released multiple times with minor variations, it’s a troop builder. Raphael with a helmet and gloves may not be super exciting, but taking a classic Foot Soldier and making a Dragon Fang Foot Soldier? I don’t care if he never appears in the show, that is awesome. Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Master Splinter

with one comment

There has never been a good Splinter toy ever made. This sounds harsh, but between the bucktoothed original, the scarecrow impersonator in Next Mutation and the brittle 2k3 figure, Splinter usually gets the short end of the stick. Read the rest of this entry »
