Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Donatello

with one comment

In the Turtles mythos, Leonardo has always been well-defined as the leader, while Raphael was the hothead and Michelangelo was the goofball. Donatello though seemed to fluctuate between technology driven scientist, cool and geeky and borderline sociopath. How else do you explain him keeping the remains of Baxter Stockman hidden in the sewers? I’m hoping the new Nickelodeon series doesn’t go that dark. Read the rest of this entry »

Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Michelangelo

Playmates continues to impress me with their new Nickelodeon TMNT line. It shouldn’t be surprising that they know how to make excellent Turtles; they have been doing it for almost 25 years now! But with each version of the Turtles making changes, this line is the first time they are different sizes. Read the rest of this entry »

Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: The Shredder

with 4 comments

Heroes are often defined best by their villains. Batman wouldn’t be nearly as interesting if Joker wasn’t running around, and Spider-Man’s elaborate rogue gallery has shaped him. But the Ninja Turtles are odd because when they first debuted, they didn’t have a set group of villains to fight. In fact, The Shredder was killed off in issue #1. But the cartoon needed a big bad and Shredder has been a constant piece of the TMNT mythos ever since. Read the rest of this entry »

Nickelodeon Ninja Turtles Review: Leonardo

It’s been a crazy few weeks for me as a toy collector. At the end of June, I was legitimately worried about what I was going to review because I knew I only had three LEGO Lord of the Rings sets left – that was it in my stockpile! After that, I didn’t have a clue of where to go. But then my favorite characters of all time showed up to rescue me: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Like most kids born in the mid 80s, I was addicted to the turtles. But unlike most kids, I never outgrew them. Once I was able to read, my cousin exposed me to the dark and gritty world of the TMNT comics, which in turn lead me to reading the Archie series on the spinner rack at Shop ‘n Save. And I stuck with them through every Saturday morning scarfing down bowl after bowl of Ninja Turtles Cereal that came with those awesome bowls or cracking open those disgustingly sweet Turtles Pies (which I still don’t know how m mom ever allowed me to eat something that green and cream filled). Mini TMNT Review: Master Splinter

without comments

Having four little Ninja Turtles is cute and all, but not having anyone else in scale with them is a bit annoying. But then FloridayBoy over at the Hasbro Heroes Forum stumbled across these little guys and gave them to me! So this review is entirely dedicated to the customizer extraordinaire FloridaBoy! TMNT Mini Mutants Review: Mike’s Kickin’ Crash Pad

without comments

This is it. After reviewing this, I’m pretty much out of new-to-me toys to review. Looks like retro month may come a little early (unless I suddenly find some new things to review). But with this, I will finish almost the entire Ninja Turtles Mini Mutants line. Whoa.

When a lone Foot Ninja discovers Mikey’s Crash Pad, Mikey decides to bash the evil baddie into oblivion! He grabs his twin chuks, mounts his board, launches himself off the grind rail, and skates into battle! The Foot Ninja doesn’t stand a chance, not against a wise-crakin’ ninja turtle and his booby-trapped mailbox!

TMNT Mini Mutants Review: Don’s Secret Surveillance Lab with Bigfoot

with one comment

The Ninja Turtles must have such an easier life in a world with the internet. They can stop scavenging around for parts and pieces for Donny to play around with. All they need is a PayPal account and they’re good to go.

When the brutish Bigfoot bursts into Don’s Surveillance Lab it’ll take all of his scientific smarts and techno trickery to bring the beast down! Don jets into action on his security scooter, slides open the secret door, sets up a trap for the big hairy behemoth and gets ready to bushido bash the beast with his bo staff! TMNT Mini Mutants Review: Raph’s Iron Pumpin’ Gym

without comments

The second of the TMNT Mini Mutants playsets is a lot like the first one, a decent playset, a repacked turtle and a villain who really should be cheaper to obtain. At least Shredder got a Foot Tech Ninja and Hun to team up with because General Mono is all alone.

When Stone General Mono monkeys his way into Raph’s gym, the fightin’ mad ninja turtle gets the workout of his life! He swings up from his barbells and bashes the monstrous Mono right through a wall! And if that isn’t enough to fix this overgrown gorilla, there’s always Raph’s booby-trapped barbell! Read the rest of this entry »

TMNT Mini Mutants Review: Cyber-Rippers with Raphael & Donatello

without comments

When I got my Ninja Turtles Mini Mutants collection, I bought the near-complete run from another member over at the Technodrome. So while I was excited to get some extra Foot Tech Ninjas and Triceratons, it also meant I ended up with some extra vehicle sets too. Read the rest of this entry »

TMNT Mini Mutants Review: Leo’s Ninja Dojo

without comments

Since Playmates figures collectors will buy all their stuff anyway, they can ignore that market entirely. That’s the only reason I can come up with for why Shredder was originally only available in a $20 playset. Read the rest of this entry »
