LEGO Star Wars Review: Mandalorian Battle Pack #7914

with 2 comments

Last year, LEGO got in a bit of trouble with Hasbro when they found out that LEGO was selling minifigures as magnets. It turns out that LEGO didn’t actually have the license to sell just the minifigures, as those fell under the action figure license that Hasbro had, so LEGO had to make some changes. While the specifics were never released, now when LEGO wants to release a handful of figures, they’ve got to make sure a construction set is the “focus.” And they’ve also ruined the LEGO magnet sets by gluing them together. Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review: Count Dooku and Commando Droid

with one comment

I hate Hasbro sometimes. In my quest to complete buying only Galactic Heroes who look cool, I somehow end up buying the same character twice. I mean, Christopher Lee is both Saruman the White and Count Dooku! How can I say no to that?

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review: Darth Maul and Obi-Wan Kenobi

with one comment

When Galactic Heroes were part of the Playskool Jr line, they had a few extra features in them. Jedi had magnets in their hands to force push and force grab. But the lightsabers left a lot to be desired with their pastel colored blades. As the line evolved, the Jedi began getting translucent blades but this wave is the first time the Sith get them too.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review: Pre Vizsla and Mandalorian Warrior

without comments

It seems like every time I think I’m done with Galactic Heroes, a new set comes out that draws me right back in. Like every boy that grew up in the 70s and 80s, I’m naturally drawn to Boba Fett and any character that looks like him. So when it was announced that a two-pack of Pre Vizsla and a Mandalorian warrior were coming out, I knew I’d end up grabbing them even if I knew nothing about them.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review: Republic Commando Fixer & Boss

with one comment

The Star Wars Expanded Universe consists of everything that isn’t in one of the six movies that includes all the cartoons, books, comics and video games. So while I never played the Republic Commandos game for the Xbox, something about these figures jumped out at me when I saw them on the pegs.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review: Padmé Amidala & Senate Security Clone Trooper

without comments

I have absolutely no idea why I bought this pack. I mean, maybe part of me like the idea of adding a tiny Natalie Portman (make that tinier) to my toy collection or maybe I just hate myself and am drawn to Clone Troopers even though I know I’ll be disappointed every time.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review: Cad Bane & Aurra Sing

without comments

I don’t know why I don’t love Star Wars as much as many of my friends. I mean, I appreciate the series and its impact on science fiction as a whole, but when compared to something like Battlestar Galactica or Firefly and Serenity (which I love more than anything in the world), it just doesn’t feel the same. Or I’ve just read far too much Joseph Campbell and just think, “Another hero’s journey?” And move on. But there is one thing about the Star Wars universe I love – the character designs. Often times I find myself buying figures of characters I know nothing about besides being awesome looking.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review – Kit Fisto & General Grievous

without comments

Over the last few months, my view of Star Wars has gotten weird. Sure, I haven’t watched the films but I did watch both of Mr. Plinkett impressive hour-long rants on Episodes I and II. And I read the entirety of Darth and Droids. And I learned that Nathan Fillion keeps a light saber next to his door. But reading all of this hasn’t helped me at all when it comes to determining who Kit Fisto and General Grievous actually are. Well, beyond a squid Jedi and an asthmatic cyborg.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review – Luminara and Super Battle Droid

without comments

I set myself two rules for purchasing Galactic Heroes to prevent myself from going into my normal mode of being a completist. All packs I buy have to contain essential characters to the original trilogy or they just had to look awesome (how else do I justify buying Jango Fett?) This two pack definitely falls into the latter category because I only have the vaguest idea of who Luminara is.

Star Wars Galactic Heroes Review – Count Dooku & Asajj Ventress

without comments

For all my talk about barely knowing anything about Star Wars, most people seem to think I know a lot. Sure, I know the line isn’t “Luke, I am your father” and of course I know that Han shot first. But when it comes to knowing about the prequels, I’ve seen each of the films once but I did watch the first of the Clone Wars series since I am a huge Samurai Jack fan and would watch anything by Genndy Tartakovsky. But like the mystery of Boba Fett, The Clone Wars brought a new villain to the forefront: the Dark Jedi, Asajj Ventress!
