G.I. Joe the Rise of Cobra Combat Heroes Review: Heavy Duty & Storm Shadow

without comments

I’ve been putting off these G.I. Joe the Rise of Cobra Combat Heroes reviews because I haven’t had time to go back and rewatch the film (along with its appropriate prequel, 500 Days of Summer) for the grandest movie of all time: G.I. Joe 500 Days of the Rise of Cobra. It casts Cobra Commander in a completely different light. But this pack doesn’t have the evil leader; instead it’s got a ninja and Mr. Eko.

G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra Combat Heroes Review: Ripcord & Destro

without comments

Confession time: I actually kind of liked G.I. Joe the Rise of Cobra. Sure, it wasn’t anywhere near as good as G.I. Joe Resolute, but that was the embodiment of perfection for the franchise. Maybe I was just so disappointed by Transformers 2 that anything I watched seemed good.

G.I. Joe the Rise of Cobra Combat Heroes Review – Duke & the Baroness

without comments

Growing up, my brother and I had a bucket full of G.I. Joes but one fateful day at the beach and an incoming tide, the bucket was lost to the depths of the ocean. With dozens of figures gone, we began playing with different toys and it would be almost two decades before I got back into G.I. Joe. After the success of Transformers and then the failure that was Transformers 2, I didn’t know what to think about the upcoming Rise of Cobra film. But my love of Combat Heroes meant I was going to get the figures.

G.I. Joe Combat Heroes follow the pattern of including a hero and a villain in each pack. This pack includes Duke and his former girlfriend, Baroness.

Toy Review: Combat Heroes Singles – The Rise of Cobra

without comments

Every toy line is defined by how good of a bad guy the good guys get to fight. Optimus Prime without Megatron is just a truck; the Ninja Turtles without Shredder are some mutant hobos living in a sewer. Where would G.I. Joe be without Cobra? Well if these four figures are any indication, Cobra doesn’t exist.

An awkward amalgam of classic G.I. Joe styled Combat Heroes combined with the modern look of recent film works better for some figures that others. While the toys are tied in with the Rise of Cobra, it doesn’t really seem like Cobra’s arrived at the party yet. Like the four G.I. Joe figures that came out, these figures are all repaints of existing sculpts with one exception.

Toy Review: Combat Heroes Singles – G.I. Joe Forces

without comments

Between the second wave of G.I. Joe Combat Heroes and the beginning of the Rise of Cobra toys, Hasbro released an odd assortment of 8 figures as single packs. These figures were from the cartoon-themed classic line but painted to match the style of the then upcoming movie. Four G.I. Joes and 4 Cobras were released and I’ve broken the reviews into two, one for each side.
