Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Desert Devastation

without comments

The idea of robots combining to create an even bigger one has existed my entire life. Voltron was made up of smaller cats in space, the Power Rangers doing it later on with dinosaurs and of course Devastator in Transformers. Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Shanghai Shootout

without comments

The first two of the Transformers Robot Heroes multipacks just hung around on shelves for years and it seemed like the second series was never going to show up. Then sometime after Christmas, Toys “R” Us and several close-out stores seemed to randomly discover cases and cases of the second wave. So if you really want these, they are still plenty of them available! Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Megatron & Chromia

with one comment

I know collectors don’t like hearing it, but female figures just don’t sell as well as male figures in toy lines targeted at guys. During the TMNT 25th anniversary, April O’Neil clogged the pegs for years afterwards (my local Toys “R” Us still has them for sale!) or how about all the Power Girl figures from DC Universe? In girl lines, it’s like when there are dolls in multiple ethnicities – people tend to buy the one that most resembles themselves. So how does Hasbro get around it? By making the toy look as little like female as possible. Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Barricade & Ratchet

with one comment

While Hasbro went back to the drawing board with some of their Robot Heroes movie designs, they knew to keep the ones the worked. Sure, Blackout got changed for the worse but Barricade still manages to look great. Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Jolt & Ravage

with 3 comments

Robot Heroes is a weird line the more I think about it. They’re toys based off a PG-13 movie based off an old cartoon from the 80s that are now being marketed to the children of the kids who watched the original cartoon. And they don’t even transform! Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Ironhide & Mixmaster

without comments

Sometimes I have a hard time writing reviews. I burned out a while back and suddenly switched to reviewing LEGO sets because they were something different. But these Robot Heroes have been living on my desk for two months waiting to get reviewed. I guess its time to bit the bullet and jump in.

Transformers Robot Heroes: Battle of The Fallen

without comments

The Fallen was an odd choice for the second Transformers movie. He’s relatively new to the series, debuting back in 2006. So instead of giving us the planet devouring monster that could still be Galactus, we instead got a very odd villain that still doesn’t feel right in the Transformers continuity to me.

The Fallen has returned to Earth to claim the Matrix, if he can, then the entire universe will fall to him. With Megatron by his side, he is nearly invincible. Luckily, the two most powerful Autobots are ready to stop them!

Robot Heroes Review: Sideways & Sideswipe

without comments

It’s been said that no one can tell the difference between a really good idea and a really bad idea until it’s too late. But you’ve got to wonder about someone who signed off on packing together Sideways and Sideswipe in the same Robot Heroes pack. Sure, it’s a fun piece of wordplay but could the names be any closer? Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Mudflap & Rampage

without comments

Robot Heroes is such an odd toy line. The whole original appeal of Transformers was the fact that the toys were both robots and vehicles – basically two toys for the price of one! Sure, other toy lines tried to replicate the success like the mutating Ninja Turtles, but nothing came close to the peanut butter and chocolate taste of Transformers. And Robot Heroes lack all of that charm.

Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Megatron & Skids

without comments

The first attempt at the movie Robot Heroes didn’t exactly work out. A few of them looked decent, but some of them were in desperate need of a re-do. One of the most necessary was Megatron, who looked way too friendly.
