LEGO Marvel Super Heroes Review: Ultimate Spider-Man’s Doc Ock Ambush

without comments

Licensing for major brands must be a challenge. Right now, you can go to your local Wal-Mart, Target or Toys “R” Us and buy Spider-Man from both LEGO and Mega Bloks! This set is technically labeled as being Ultimate Spider-Man, but there really isn’t anything about it that makes me think this is based on that continuity. Read the rest of this entry »

Amazing Spider-Man Super Hero Squad Review: Battle Against Venom

without comments

This set is just awkward. Remember four years ago after Brand New Day when Eddie Brock ended up becoming Anti-Venom? Or how about in the last four years how Venom went from being Mac Gargon to Flash Thompson and now Eddie Brock has no powers and hunts the remaining symbiotes? This set would have been awesome if it was released during the height of the Super Hero Squad, but now it feels even more awkward than the Flashpoint Action League series. Amazing Spider-Man Super Hero Squad Review: Escape from Lizard’s Lair

without comments

I intentionally have been keeping myself in the dark when it comes to Sony’s reboot with The Amazing Spider-Man. All I really know about it is Emma Stone is a perfect Gwen Stacey, the Lizard looks weird, Spidey redid his costume and I’m betting on great power coming with great responsibility. Amazing Spider-Man Super Hero Squad Review: Super Villain Surprise

without comments

It’s been what feels like ages since any Super Hero Squad figures have been released. The Avengers was supposed to include some new sets, but those never materialized so it’s been almost a year since I last got my hands on any new figures! But after the line got unofficially canceled, I can’t say I’m surprised. Kind of like how I’m not surprised that Hasbro used this as excuse to just release the same figures in this three pack. Marvel Minimates Review: Unmasked Spider-Man & Green Goblin

without comments

I feel like I should love Minimates more than I already do. They combine two of my favorite things: tiny toys and LEGO-compatibility. But for some reason, I never got the Minimates bug in quite the same way. Either way, when I see a little Green Goblin for sale I tend to buy him. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Super Hero Adventures Playskool Heroes Review: Spider-Man & Green Goblin

with 2 comments

It’s not easy for any collector when a toy line ends. Years ago, I devoured all of the Ninja Turtles toys I could get my hands on when the new cartoon debuted, and then I began viciously collecting Marvel Legends up until Hasbro took over. That was eventually replaced by my love of the Super Hero Squad and its kin the Galactic Heroes, Robot Heroes, Combat Heroes and Adventure Heroes. But for some reason, Hasbro recently decided to break my heart and effectively ended the entire Hasbro Heroes group for these. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Spider-Man & Thor

without comments

Packing two hard to find figures together seems like a good idea, but I’m wondering what Hasbro is up to when it comes to this two-pack. With both figures being very minor variants, it seems kind of pointless. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Mega Bloks Micro Action Review: Black Costume Spider-Man

without comments

Just like how there were actually three different versions of Iron Man in the first wave of the Marvel Mega Bloks Micro Action blind bagged figures, Spider-Man got in on the fun and included a third version of himself too! But at least this variant is a popular one. Read the rest of this entry »

Marvel Mega Bloks Micro Action Review: Spider-Man

without comments

While Iron Man looked decent as a Marvel Mega Bloks figure, Spider-Man has suffered a different fate. Maybe it’s the fact that the limber webslinger looks really weird all blocky and bulked up or maybe it’s the fact that Mega Bloks clearly phoned this one in. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: Marvel Universe Handful of Heroes 8-Pack

without comments

Small plastic figures have been a staple in the toy world for decades. Army Men were always the gold standard – cheap, bountiful and always ready to be sacrificed to the name of entertainment. But being from the generation that grew up on M.U.S.C.L.E. Men and Monster in My Pocket, I figured what’s the worse that could happen with these little Marvel Handful of Heroes.
