Iron Man 3 Super Hero Squad Review: Armored Mission 6-Pack

Iron Man 3 Super Hero Squad Armored Mission 6-pack

Every time I think the Super Hero Squad line is finally dead, Hasbro throws out on more set to let it live on a little longer. It’s been going on for almost two years with the line coming up to breath in weird little ways. But out of the blue, this exclusive six-pack showed up on Target shelves without a single repack in it! Iron Man 3 Super Hero Squad Review: Expo Air Assault

Iron Man 3 Super Hero Squad Expo Air Assault

The first of the Iron Man 3 Super Hero Squad 3-packs covered the original Iron Man movie. The second pack covers Iron Man 2, but being a 3-pack means it suffers in a weird way. Or maybe I’m just annoyed we never got an armored Whiplash figure. Read the rest of this entry »

Iron Man 3 Super Hero Squad Review: Battle Vault

Iron Man 3 Super Hero Squad Battle Vault

It’s sad to see how much the Super Hero Squad has dwindled. In the last two years, only a handful of three-packs have been released and the two-packs are non-existent. But when a new Marvel movie comes out, Hasbro dusts the line off for what I keep thinking is the last hurrah. With Iron Man 3 approaching, Hasbro has released two two-packs that aren’t based on that movie.

A lot has changed since Iron Man was first released. The movie was such a surprise hit that Hasbro didn’t even bother making movie-themed toys, they just made some multi-packs and then had to scramble. The Battle Vault harkens back to the first Iron Man movie and it just works – even if it is all repaints. Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes

with one comment

My biggest concern with the Avengers movie was what Hasbro would do with the toys. Providing a toy company with all the big names they would possible want could have meant disaster. But instead of turning the Avengers Super Hero Squad line into a bunch of rehashes of Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man and Thor, they actually showed some restraint. In fact, if you buy all three of the 3-packs, you get the entire cast! Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Secret Invasion

with one comment

With a name like Secret Invasion, it’s hard not to be impressed with Hasbro’s commitment to nods at the comics in this toy line originally intended for three year olds. But nods to the comics have been a constant trend in this line. How else do you explain getting Captain America Punisher or a Secret Wars four-pack? Read the rest of this entry »

Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Attack of Loki

It’s been a long time since the toy gods have smiled down on me. I think the last time it happened was when I stumbled across a full set of the Wal-Mart Marvel Legends Giant-Man series. But over the weekend, I discovered the full set of the Avengers Super Hero Squad packs at Newbury Comics in Harvard Square! Read the rest of this entry »

Amazing Spider-Man Super Hero Squad Review: Battle Against Venom

without comments

This set is just awkward. Remember four years ago after Brand New Day when Eddie Brock ended up becoming Anti-Venom? Or how about in the last four years how Venom went from being Mac Gargon to Flash Thompson and now Eddie Brock has no powers and hunts the remaining symbiotes? This set would have been awesome if it was released during the height of the Super Hero Squad, but now it feels even more awkward than the Flashpoint Action League series. Amazing Spider-Man Super Hero Squad Review: Escape from Lizard’s Lair

without comments

I intentionally have been keeping myself in the dark when it comes to Sony’s reboot with The Amazing Spider-Man. All I really know about it is Emma Stone is a perfect Gwen Stacey, the Lizard looks weird, Spidey redid his costume and I’m betting on great power coming with great responsibility. Amazing Spider-Man Super Hero Squad Review: Super Villain Surprise

without comments

It’s been what feels like ages since any Super Hero Squad figures have been released. The Avengers was supposed to include some new sets, but those never materialized so it’s been almost a year since I last got my hands on any new figures! But after the line got unofficially canceled, I can’t say I’m surprised. Kind of like how I’m not surprised that Hasbro used this as excuse to just release the same figures in this three pack. Avengers Super Hero Squad Review: Battle at the Red Skull’s Lair

without comments

With the Captain America marketing blitz in full force, the first Avenger has finally gotten his own three-pack in the Avengers Super Hero Squad line. Amazingly, this set goes pure, classic Cap by releasing three figures that couldn’t possibly make more sense together. Read the rest of this entry »
