Marvel Super Hero Squad Review – Mister Fantastic & Super Skrull

Alright, I’m two margaritas in at this point of writing this review so I may go off on a tangent or two. Wave 3 of Super Hero Squad paired classic Fantastic Four villains with Ultimate versions of the classic team. But of all the teams to go with the Ultimate versions of, the Fantastic Four were probably the worst to pick, especially when it comes to Mister Fantastic.

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review – Human Torch & Silver Surfer

A good super hero team is about balance, both in terms of powers and personality. Otherwise you end up with a table of Supermen and that isn’t nearly as exciting as it sounds. In fact, when Stan Lee was tasked to create a new super hero team to go against DC’s Justice League, he made it a point to make the characters different from anything that had been seen in comics.

“For just this once, I would do the type of story I myself would enjoy reading…. And the characters would be the kind of characters I could personally relate to: they’d be flesh and blood, they’d have their faults and foibles, they’d be fallible and feisty, and — most important of all — inside their colorful, costumed booties they’d still have feet of clay.” But Stan Lee isn’t the only creator of the Fantastic Four, half of that credit belongs to the legendary Jack “the King” Kirby and this two-pack honors them both.

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review: Invisible Woman & Doctor Doom

Marvel’s first family is held together by two things: a fantastic female and one hell of a villain to unite the group. This pack has them both, the always lovely Sue Storm and the completely diabolical Victor Von Doom!

Marvel Super Hero Squad Review – The Thing & Namor the Sub-Mariner

Like the last two waves, wave 3 of the Super Hero Squad has a definite theme: Marvel’s first super powered family – the Fantastic Four! Four packs per wave and four main characters makes great sense. Like every family, they’re held together by a giant rock. In this case, he’s literally a rock!
