Transformers Rescue Bots Energize Optimus Prime & Cody Burns

For a collector, there is nothing quite like being surprised when browsing your local toy store. So much of hunting is knowing which case assortments have been sighted across the country or tracking down that one specific figure to finish your collection in vain. But to stumble across a new line you didn’t even know existed? It is like being a kid all over again! Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers KRE-O Botcon Exclusive Review: Optimus Prime

without comments

A few weeks ago, a handful of us toy collectors in the Boston area met up to exchange stories and have a few beers. Then we all opened our trunks in hopes of doing some trading, only to find each of us seem to collect completely different lines. But Josh from CollectionDX gave me his Optimus Prime Kreon exclusive because he doesn’t collect them (and the box was crushed). Read the rest of this entry »

KRE-O Transformers Review: Micro-Changers Spinister

without comments

You’d think a Transformer named Spinister would be connected to a spider somehow. Instead, he’s just a propeller enthusiast with a terrifyingly large gun. Read the rest of this entry »

KRE-O Transformers Review: Micro-Changers Crankstart

without comments

Crankstart is your generic Transformer. So generic in fact, that Wikipedia only mentions him by name in passing and his TF Wiki article is equally as sparse. He’s a Decepticon who thought he could avoid battle by sticking to off-road missions. Read the rest of this entry »

KRE-O Transformers Review: Micro-Changers Sunstorm

without comments

Starscream may be the best gravy train for Hasbro. Here’s a character that they can paint over and over again and get away with calling them different characters. Paint him blue, and you’ve got Thundercracker. Paint him purple and he’s Skywarp. It’s almost as absurd as what Playmates has with the Ninja Turtles! Read the rest of this entry »

KRE-O Transformers Review: Micro-Changers Scorponok

without comments

The Transformers blind-bagged Microchanger Kreons (there’s a mouthful) are the perfect little figures. As much as I adore LEGO figures, there’s no denying the simple truth: there’s room for improvement. After 30 years of relatively unchanged figures, getting a figure that looks like a LEGO figure but with almost double the mobility is awesome.

Then there is the fact that these figures are also Transformers. Read the rest of this entry »

KRE-O Transformers Review: Micro-Changers Waspinator

with one comment

I really like the KRE-O Transformers Kreon Micro-Changers (well, besides the fact that their name is a touch over the top). The blind bagged figures are exactly what this line needed. While you can’t compete against LEGO when it comes to the bricks, you can battle them when it comes to figures. Read the rest of this entry »

KRE-O Transformers Review: Micro-Changers Galvatron

with one comment

I love it when toy companies listen to fans. Hasbro’s KRE-O line has been a mixed bag. While the assortment minifigures are excellent, the fact that you could only get them with subpar LEGO knock-off sets really hurt the line. It wasn’t until I found most of the series on clearance that I finally picked up most of the figures. Read the rest of this entry »

Transformers Bot Shots Review: Megatron

with one comment

I think part of the reason I really like the Transformers Bot Shots series is because of how well executed they are. I think it’s becoming a big issue that toy collectors, reviewers and companies are quickly forgetting who toys are for: kids. I’ll admit that I love my Masterpiece Optimus Prime and my NECA TMNT figures, but there is something very satisfying about knowing there is a line for kids that cost under $5 a figure and once you have two of them, you don’t need anything else. Transformers Bot Shots Review: Optimus Prime

with one comment

Now with many of my favorite toy lines finished and Super Hero Squad in a form that is barely considered alive at this point, I’ve been looking for some other smaller lines. But then yo go re over at OAFE wrote up a brief review on the newest Transformers miniature line, Bot Shots, and I was hooked. Read the rest of this entry »
