Transformers the Movie Robot Heroes: Optimus Prime & Blackout

without comments

The original Transformers Robot Heroes line was based completely on the Transformers animated movie from the 80s. It never made a whole lot of sense to me, release figures for 3 year olds but based on designs that are over two decades old. Or it was an elaborate ploy to get parents who remembered loving the Transformers to buy the toys for their little kids.

But the other side was the upcoming Transformers movie! At the time, I was rather excited because as long as vehicles transformed into robots, I was happy. Plus seeing a line in the credits saying the movie is based on action figures made me giddy. Well, that and the fact that Peter Cullen came back to voice Optimus Prime.

Transformers Universe Robot Heroes Review: Arcee & Rumble

without comments

The standard toy company logic for years has been “females toys in boys’ lines don’t sell.” So it took two decades to get an Arcee figure on the shelf. Of course in the last five years, Arcee has gotten half a dozen releases so I don’t know what’s going on there.

Transformers Universe Robot Heroes Review: Hound & Blitzwing

without comments

I find the concept of the triple-changers in Transformers equal parts absurd and awesome. Astrotrain is so delightfully achronistic that he transforms into a giant robot, a steam powered locomotive engine and a space shuttle! Transformers Universe Robot Heroes Review: Galvatron & Sunstreaker

without comments

The first two waves of Robot Heroes focused almost exclusively on characters in the Transformers animated movie, but there was one massive omission from the line: Galvatron!

Transformers Robot Heroes Review: Decepticon Sneak Attack

without comments

Optimus Prime lays a trap for Megatron and the Decepticons and if all goes according to plan, the evil robots will be defeated once and for all. Mirage creates a holographic replica of an important rocket base to lure the Decepticons in, but as the battle begins, the Autobots discover only a few of their enemies are real. Megatron has tricked them, and the real rocket base is under attack as they speak!

Good work there Optimus, I didn’t think it was possible to be outsmarted by a Transformer who turns into a handgun that can only be fired by another Transformer. But while the plot behind this pack is rather contrived, the packaging isn’t. Much like the Super Hero Squad 5-Packs, this set is excellently done with a whole miniature cityscape in the diorama.
